About us

Founded in 1964, Texas Men’s Soccer is the highest-level team representing the University of Texas. Please note that we are a student-run club team and NOT a D1 men’s program. As such, we are unable to provide athletic scholarships or influence admission decisions.

However, what we do provide is a highly competitive soccer environment without sacrificing any one of our player’s academic pursuits. This unique environment has been possible over the years thanks to the steady stream of underrecruited talent that attends the University as well as a dedicated coaching staff and alumni association.

The team typically consists of a dedicated roster of around 40 players training 3 nights a week and competing in both Conference and non-Conference matches each season, with the ultimate goal of sending a roster of 25 to win the NIRSA National Soccer Championship. Roster selections are fluid throughout the season and are based on fitness, injuries, and of course practice and game performance, all with the goal of developing a deep, highly competitive pool of players always vying for first-team and tournament selection.

Our pre-season program—typically starting two weeks before the first day of class—marks the start of our season. Conference games usually start in late August and tend to extend well into November, depending on post-season performance. Spring semesters hold no official Conference play but present an opportunity for players to continue developing as the club maintains a program of training sessions, a schedule of (friendly) games, and the potential of a regional tournament.

In order to be eligible, a player must be currently enrolled as a UT student that earns 6 credits per semester and maintains a minimum 2.0 GPA each semester. If these requirements are not met, the student will not be eligible to try out, attend practices, or otherwise play with the team.

If you’re interested in trying out, head over to our prospective player page and fill out the form!

Club officers

Student leadership is at the very foundation of Texas Men's Soccer. All players and club members are encouraged and expected to actively seek leadership roles both inside and outside the field of play, regardless of whether they hold an officer position. Officers are elected on an annual basis by the club's members.

Juan Caudillo - HEAD COACH

Coach Juan Caudillo is a proud alumnus of the Texas Men’s Soccer program. He played from 2009-2012 and was part of the team that reached the Semifinal of the NIRSA National Championship in 2010. He also became an officer and a leader of the team in his junior and senior seasons. Before coming to Texas, he was also a captain of the Del Valle High School soccer team from El Paso, TX that won the 4-A State Soccer Championship in 2008.

As he neared graduation, he began to work summer soccer camps and got involved with Lonestar SC here in Austin with their Junior Academy program. After 5 years and earning his first two coaching licenses, he decided to join the Texas’ staff as an Assistant Coach in 2016. After 4 years of assisting two separate Head Coaches, he got the opportunity to be the Head Coach starting in 2020. After the pandemic brought all of that first year to halt,  he went on to have an almost perfect start to his tenure at the helm in 2021, helping the team get to its first National Final since 1997 and posting a 15-1 league record for the season. In the following year, he guided the team to a 12-1-2 record in their 2022 league play and helped the team book a return to the Semifinal of the NIRSA National Championship.

Coach Juan graduated with a BBA in Marketing and has been working full-time in digital marketing since graduation. He has a passion for coaching at all levels and loves the feeling of seeing his players grow on and off the field. You can reach him personally on his LinkedIn or by emailing UTMensSoccer@gmail.com.
